The easiest smear.

I want to prepare all conservatives for an ugly, but unavoidable fact. From here on out, every criticism you make about Obama will be called racist by someone, somewhere. It could be a politician, a reporter, or a commenter on a blog, but steel yourself for this all-too-convenient smear.

Of course, if Hillary had won the nomination, every criticism of her would be labeled sexist. It was a lose-lose situation for Republicans, to be aggressively enforced by the Dem-friendly MSM.

Late-night comedians will ridicule, left-leaning columnists will sniff, and reporters will cast every pro-McCain poll as a disturbing insight into America's unforgivable intolerance. And the smears will grow in intensity the closer we get to November. Look, if the media was willing to label half of the Democratic party racist, do you think they will spare Republicans?

So get ready, folks. Want to criticize Obama's tax plans?
"That's racist!"

Disagree with Obama's plan to negotiate with Holocaust-denying madmen?
"That's racist!"

Criticize the racism among Obama's mentors?
"That's racist!"

Make a Photoshop or editorial cartoon about Obama?
"That's racist!"

Write a post warning about false allegations of racism?
"That's racist!"

So let me help our the mainstream media save a bit of time. Here's a widget* that should help them ply their trade over the next few months:

Sadly for the Democrats, every false allegation will hurt their candidate's chances in November. First, people don't respond well to false charges of racism. Second, Obama should be positioned as "the Democratic candidate,"  not "the black candidate." The moment he allowed Bill Clinton to call him the latter is when Obama started to founder.

Of course, ridiculing McCain's age will be acceptable, if not applauded. Jokes about senility, Alzheimer's and flashbacks to Vietnam will be de rigeur among the media elite.

So hold on to your keyboards, conservative bloggers. It's going to be an ugly few months.

UPDATE: Cuffy Meigs has already found the first instance of the MSM labeling a Photoshop parody as "racist." Ay, carumba...

UPDATE #2 (Jan. 7, 2009): Thanks to Michelle Malkin for her kind link. And if you have an extra five seconds, would you mind voting for Exurban League as the Best Small Blog. (A liberal blog is currently winning and we could really use your help!)

It has already started. My son (26, Anglo) was in line at the local Safeway, standing behind a black woman. looking at the various tabloid headlines, he couldn't help but laugh. The woman turned and asked what he was laughing at, so he pointed to the tabloid rack. Immediately, the said, "What you got against Obama? Typical white man trying to keep the black man down! Since we operate a small business, and he was wearing a company shirt, he did his best to defuse the situation; I probably would have poured gas on the fire, by informing her that Obama is not black. Liberals always love hearing that one.
